What's A King To A God?

When I first heard the words, "What's a king to a God?" strategically woven into Jay-Z's rap lyrics, I realized the true depth of that simple, six-word statement.  The rhythmic "slap in the face" was aimed at T.I. who has proclaimed himself the King of the South's hip-hop dynasty.  Obviously, the self-proclaimed God wants to it to be known that he is still the Alpha and Omega when it comes to music.

Yes, I immediately laughed at the arrogance that failed to be masked by the music.  "Isn't it more vain to compare yourself to a God than it is a king?," I thought. I really thought that line probably failed to deliver the punch it was intended to and caused more people to raise their eyebrow just a little more as Jay-Z's lyrics, once again, drew more attention the the rumors of his ties to the Illuminati and the hidden messages within his music.

But, still, I couldn't help but recite the same line when I saw Bishop Eddie Long get crowned as a king in front of thousands of cheering parishioners. Although statements made by officials who represent the Messianic Jewish Church have come out and publicly denounced the actions of  Rabbi Ralph Messer, social media sites are abuzz with rebuttals and opinions about the ceremonial crowning of God's newest king.

People seem to be outraged at the hybrid-religious relationship between the bishop and the rabbi.  They are also stating that the entire ceremony was a farce and a disgrace to the sanctity of the church.  The Global Post is but one of many worldwide news machines that have questioned the actions of this highly publicized ceremony.  In turn, Bishop Eddie Long has opened himself up to even more scrutiny in the public eye. I, too, watched the video and wondered how any true believer could stomach the antics displayed on stage (no longer a pulpit) and not question the entangled gibberish being spewed by the rabbi.

After a while, I stopped listening to him and tried to see if I could hear the man in the tan suit complaining about the weight of the chair as he tried to switch hands and get a better grip.  I'm sure no one told him how long that song was before he volunteered to join the circus.  But, alas, I digress...

But really, "what is a king to a God?"  Well, if I am reading my bible correctly, God chose to speak through many kings.  He deliberately chose people whose lives would impact many others and used them as an example.  Just as the video depicts, he is now raised above all others and - whether he like it or not - it makes him a clear target for even more ridicule, scrutiny, and hatred.  I hope he is ready for the war he has just "birthed"...

I, like millions of others, am appalled by the allegations which started this entire debacle and every action after it. My mother always told me to be careful about the things I pray for and all I can do is shake my head and wonder what lies on the horizon for the bishop.  Both self-proclaimed kings that I have mentioned (T.I. and Bishop Long) have seen themselves go seemingly unscathed although they have been the target of public ridicule and mockery.

I am sure that (in hind-sight) both men would say that their public trials have made them better men (not kings), but we all continue to scratch our heads and wonder out loud, "What were they thinking?!"  Man has the ability to bring some pitfalls into his own life by rushing God to "bless him" again.  Remember, not every trial is not brought about through God's hand, but every triumph reveals His hand in our lives.   Just pray for the bishop in the days, months, and years to come.

Now, as far as Jay-Z calling himself a God; I will just refer to the first of the Ten Commandments...  And wasn't it a golden calf (ram/Baphomet) that was struck down when Moses returned with those commandments written in stone by the hand of the one true God?  I'm just saying...

But these are just the rantings of ONE Man's Opinion.... What say, you?

  1. Sean,

    This is one subject matter I prefer not to give my opinion on. My mother told me, "If you have nothing good to say, keep your mouth closed." I will follow her advice.

    What I will say is that it pains me to see all of this nonsense, all of it. The Bishop Long that I came to love as a spiritual father, would NOT have done anything he has been accused of.

    My own personal experience, having been married to a minister, has taught me that they are public targets. I will agree with you, not everything is brought on by God. He does allow things to happen. He allows us to make our own decisions, some of which may not be good, but will teach us a lesson, if we are humble enough to learn it.

    I will say this, and then I'm shutting it down. There was a star that mentioned, good publicity or bad, if your name is not being spoken, you are irrelevant.

    Do we have to go to such lengths to be relevant?

  2. Wow what an amzing topic. I have tried really hard not to voice my opinions concerning Eddie Long as one must be very careful when speaking against a man or women of God! However I must say very carefully the whole ordeal is distrurbing to the Kingdom as a whole. We are to worship God and only God! The same goes for the self procaimed entertainers.. We all have to answer for our action..Be blessed

  3. Woo! Great article. I must agree that Long has blasphemed with his recent actions. His recent apology to Anti-Defamation League does not suffice. He must apologize to the world for his absurd actions! SMH

  4. Bishop Long is running from the truth. But without the truth he will never be free! I believe if bishop was truly sorry for his wrongs. Well, let me say it this way. If bishop wasn't so prideful and repented he would be at peace, the ppl would be at peace with himself. Because he refuses to acknowledge his sins it's more than right God makes a mockery of him. I just believe God has stepped away from bishop, allowing him to make a mockery of himself. The Word says Men will become lovers unto themselves.Ten Commandments clearly says, "We shall have no other gods" Bishop has enough word in him to know he's in trouble with God. Yet and still, pride will not allow him to surrender. SAD!

  5. Love the article however we must take a closer look from the inside out instead of the outside in. PROVERBS 18:13 " He who answers a matter before he hears it, It is folly [foolish] and (brings) shame to him." The video that was presented was 14 min at the end of an hour long teaching about authority in the kingdom of God. If you look closely, there seemed to be some confusion in Bishop Long's face as to what was going on. If you read and STUDY the WORD of GOD (operative word is STUDY) you will find that, WE all who are believers, are called KINGS and PRIESTS. My question is, why so much attention is given to this? Why does not just the world, but also the church seem to tear down the church? Men and women of God are always under such treacherous scrutiny, but if everything was revealed about [your] life, would you look so holy? As for having "No other Gods" I challenge you to take a closer look at the WORD in Psalm 82 in particular vs 6. 82:1 God stands in the congregation of the mighty;
    He judges among the gods.
    2 How long will you judge unjustly,
    And show partiality to the wicked? Selah
    3 Defend the poor and fatherless;
    Do justice to the afflicted and needy.
    4 Deliver the poor and needy;
    Free them from the hand of the wicked.
    5 They do not know, nor do they understand;
    They walk about in darkness;
    All the foundations of the earth are unstable.
    6 I said, “You ARE gods",
    And all of you are children of the Most High.
    7 But you shall die like men,
    And fall like one of the princes.”
    8 Arise, O God, judge the earth;

    God HIMSELF has referred to us as gods, however we must make the distinction that we are NOT the God (HIM). Don't get it twisted, we will die like men. Once you understand the principles of Godly Kingdom and who you are in God, media interpretation becomes irrelevant.

    1. Great points. But, he was crowned as a king - not a God. The confusion seen in the final 14 minutes of this sermon is only complicated by the preceding melee of mixed messages in the preceding 46 minutes of the sermon. As I stated in my opinion of the matter, I have only posed a question and stated my opinion. If I were judge and jury, my stance would have been different....

      I encourage every reader to offer rebuttal or align themselves in thought; however, we can avoid tangents by reading for understanding and referring only to the matters outlined in the original text before responding. I, too, revel in biblical prose and passages that must be read and re-read in order to come to a resolve. We each have the ability to reason and, therefore, we will each have our own opinions....
